A huge thank you to our wonderful joint woodland & bellringing team
The Lower Machen church bellringers and our amazing woodlanders certainly did us proud at our joint annual Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser.
The church was decked out with bunting, tablecloths, teacups, cake forks and jam jars full of flowers to welcome over 45 guests.
Aprons on, we greeted our visitors on a warm, sunny Friday morning.
Brenda and Lindsay arrived with Brenda’s legendary bara brith (speckled bread), Ann W brought her delicious lemon drizzle, Beth her spicy Jamaican ginger cake, and Barbara & Wayne sent in their gorgeous apple cupcakes. There was also a homemade chocolate cake adorned with chocolate fingers and buttons, a Victoria sponge and a huge fancy carrot cake, plus plenty of fondant muffins, tarts and fruit cakes.
And then there was our magnificent showstopper: Abi’s “Count the Dots” Macmillan Dotty Cake, which looked almost too good to eat and was the special prize for our dot-counting competition.

For the raffle, Ann A kindly donated a watch, while Janet brought a bottle of plonk and an apple crumble, helping us raise even more on the day.
Between us, we baked some homemade delights, and faked some carefully bought in tasty treats, all to tempt our generous guests. Somehow it all came together to create a lovely morning of sharing, chatting, eating and giving.
And what a result!
We raised £532 at the coffee morning itself, with another £25 donated online, taking us to £557. St Michael’s & All Angels Church adding a further £50, bringing our total to £607. If we’re able to claim Gift Aid, our final total could top £750!
It’s a fantastic achievement, and every single pound came from people simply giving what they could, whether that was a cake, a raffle prize, a donation, a cup of coffee or a few pounds dropped into the pot.
It was lovely to see friends and family come together for such a worthwhile cause. There were some very special faces among us too: people remembering loved ones and friends lost to cancer, who were very much present in our thoughts and hearts.
These mornings are about so much more than cake and coffee. They bring people together, create a little community magic and, most importantly, help support people living with cancer.
So thank you to every one of you who baked, donated, bought, raffled, counted dots, made coffee, chatted, laughed and helped make the morning such a success. You really are a brilliant bunch.
And although it was my birthday on Sunday, I did warn my family I didn’t want to see another cake for a long, long while!

There is still time to contribute and money is indeed still coming in but If you still want to donate to this fantastic cause go to:
