Become a Volunteer

We carry out work in the woodlands during the period September to March in order to avoid disturbing the wildlife during the breeding season.

As well as working in the woods – maintenance, coppicing, clearing, hedge laying etc, we very much welcome help from people who could help with administration tasks like newsletter writing and sending, grant application preparation, general advice.

More Than a Woodland

Coed y Werin is more than a collection of trees, ponds, paths and geological features.

It is a place where relationships are formed, nurtured and remembered.

For many people, it is where childhood adventures first sparked wonder and curiosity. It is where climbing a fallen tree, building a den, discovering a frog or hearing birdsong for the first time began a lifelong relationship with nature.

It is where friendships have grown through shared experiences, where families have walked together across generations, and where people return throughout their lives to celebrate, reflect, heal and simply be.

For some, this woodland holds memories of loved ones who are no longer with us. A favourite tree, a quiet bench, a winding path or a familiar view can become a place of comfort, where memories are revisited and conversations continue in the silence of the trees.

As custodians of Coed y Werin, we recognise that we care for far more than a woodland. We care for a place that has become woven into the lives of countless people. Every decision we make is guided not only by what is best for wildlife and the landscape, but also by respect for the human stories that have become part of this place.

Our responsibility is therefore one of balance: protecting nature, preserving heritage, honouring memories and ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to build relationships with this woodland that are every bit as meaningful as those that came before.

As custodians of Coed y Werin, we care not only for its woodland, wildlife and geological heritage, but also for the enduring relationship between people and place.
